Goals....Here comes the new year, are you ready?

Maybe one of the best quotes about achieving goals - " I missed 100% of the shots I never took" - Wayne Gretzky. As 2020 comes to an end, there have been a lot of hurdles for many to overcome and everyone has a unique story. Moving into 2021, there is a lot of uncertainty but this doesn't mean that we should not set goals for ourselves. On new year's day, will you make a list of goals for 2021 again that look like the chart below?

I too, have had the same goals and in fact lines up pretty close to what you see above. The problem that I had, was I didn't know where to start. It's great. to say that I want to save more, spend less, or I want to lose weight, but I never quite understood how I could do that. I want to lose weight, but where do you start? Run, walk, lift weights, eat less? All these questions and on top of that balance life with family, and work. I needed someone to help me and understand where to start. Life happens and the following year, I had the same goals again and I was stuck in a cycle, and the weight kept getting more and the debt grew as well. It wasn't until I learned about the Dave Ramsey program " The Total Money Makeover". It cleared things up on how to save more or spend less. Together, my wife and I read the book and started applying the baby step principles. One goal reached in our finances meant that we were on the right track, then another win, then another, and before I knew it, my marriage had grown stronger and my health was getting better. I lost over 50 lbs that year. You see, I always wanted to win with my goals, the problem is that we are told to "Just Do It". Maybe so, but you need to understand how. I studied money and read a lot of books, I learned about getting the right shoes to run with so that I would not injure myself. I got involved in church and became a better person. Think about it, alignment in one goal, enables you to focus on other goals and apply the same methodology so that you can see results.

I hope that you were successful in your goals for 2020. If not, make a list and give yourself something to shoot for. If you need help in understanding where to start, learn from someone who has been there and has a passion to help. It's not going to happen on it's own and you will need to set goals. But it is so worth it in the end.
